Cecilie Bahnsen + ASICS GEL-Quantum 360 VIII
Cecilie Bahnsen is thrilled to announce her third collaboration with ASICS Sportstyle, launching during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Following two highly anticipated releases, the new sneaker is the first-ever women’s model of ASICS’ Gel-Quantum 360 VIII. Cecilie brings her signature feminine vision of everyday couture to this technical sneaker – radically reworking it into a sandal.
Each element of this trainer has been carefully considered and developed. The starting point for developing this shoe was the GEL-Quantum 360 VIII tooling, which offers the most visible technology that there has been in a Sportstyle shoe. Created using Division Space technology, utilising the space between the GEL and the midsole for enhanced comfort. The sandal-style upper is completed with two velcro straps embellished with a floral application - a nod to the previous GT-2160 collaboration. The upper base features techy, two-tone mesh and 5D print overlays while the outsole uses a semi-transparent rubber piece with a customised floral print underneath.
To create the campaign for the project, Cecilie has joined forces with artist and photographer Casper Sejersen and creative studio, MOON. With a nod to the Paris Olympics, the sneaker is modelled by Danish gymnast, Frida Lund, styled in Cecilie Bahnsen’s FW24 collection, performing a routine on the bars, striking an image of power and delicacy, strength and femininity.
“With the campaign, we had this idea creating something quite literal. I wanted to see the shoes in action, on a sportswoman. This is our third time working with our friends at ASICS, and I wear the shoes from our collaborations nearly every day, walking around Copenhagen, travelling… everywhere. But I wanted to see them really performing, so we worked with the gymnast Frida Lund, photographed by Casper Sejersen. The beauty and poetry of watching Frida on the bars took my breath away. Our dresses never looked more at home, dancing in the air.” Cecilie Bahnsen explains.
The campaign and collaboration sneaker will be revealed during Paris Fashion Week at ASICS’ movement-inspired pop-up. Open from 20 to 22 June, Cecilie’s space will feature Casper Sejersen’s imagery, the sneakers exhibited in an industrial-style installation on steel tables. A striking contrast to Cecilie Bahnsen’s feminine DNA, the installation references the unexpected beauty and harmony of two seemingly opposite universes coming together harmoniously.
