ASICS x Concepts GEL-Lyte III 'Otoro'
The ASICS GEL-LYTE III OG sneaker collaboration with Concepts spawns design inspiration from the Japanese tuna and its trajectory from a once-avoided fish to a pricey commodity in the global fish market, boasting a record sale of $1.8M for a large bluefin tuna. From peasant food to a near-delicacy, the story of Japanese tuna is interpreted by Concepts as a Japanese counterpart to their New England lobster.
Formed with pigskin nubuck overlays on the upper, these panels are rendered with a series of coral hues to emulate the fatty meat cuts that appear on choice tuna belly. Representing the coloration from the scales of fresh tuna, the toe, heel, and ASICS Stripes also symbolise the Japanese knives used to slice the fish before its final presentation.
Completing the story, these shoes come with a second set of laces that are sprinkled with wasabi undertones to illustrate the spicy horseradish that's placed on the side of the culinary creation.
