CLOT is pleased to introduce its Fall Winter 2022 collection, titled Altered Beast. Mythical creatures, often appearing in the form of altered beasts, lie at the core of ancient folklore in every culture. Created using wild imagination, these legendary creatures are the results of artistic expression, each unique to its culture. To truly understand a culture, you must first understand its art. CLOT’s latest Fall Winter 2022 collection is a celebration of the altered beasts in all cultures of the world.
“It was inspired by the concept of explosive mixing and matching,” shares CLOT Founder and Creative Director, Edison Chen. “I’m a history geek who loves Egyptian culture, one of the most striking images of that time is drawings of people that are four different types of things. To understand that culture means you have to let go of everything you think you know, and try to understand what it is that they’re trying to portray.”
Embracing the distinctive creativity in cultural mythology and its creatures, the CLOT Fall Winter 2022 “Altered Beast” collection of tees, sweatshirts, shirts, jackets, and hats drops in an expressive mix of animal prints, presented in clashing colors such as logos and graphics evoking mythical vibes. Lifestyle accessories including water bottles, a cushion, a blanket, and badges are also available.To further realize the creative vision for this collection, Edison Chen has invited artist Tetsuya Nagato to create a set of campaign images starring friends of CLOT and famed actor Yōsuke Kubozuka and model Kozue Akimoto, revealing their mystical form.
“When I ideate, I think about how the creative concept is supposed to be delivered instead of just the clothing, and the keywords ‘mix-and-match’, ‘mashups’, and ‘weird collages’ immediately came to mind. Nagato does a lot of weird mashups that I am a fan of. When I visited Nagato at his art show in Japan and saw his work, I immediately decided he was going to shoot the campaign. His style totally matches this,” shared Chen.
